Day 53: Pendleton Woolen Mills

Day 53 of 365…

Just East of Vancouver, WA is a little town called Washougal. Washougal, WA is the last stop in Clark County before you hit Skamania County and the amazing Columbia River Gorge. Wool blankets made at Washougal Pendleton Woolen MillsAs you drive along Highway 14 you’ll find Pendleton Woolen Mills right at the 15th Street intersection. Pendleton Woolen Mills has been running the Washougal Mill Store since 1912. The original operation was a weaving mill which allowed them to expand their fabric varieties. Today this is a full store carrying Pendleton products ranging from men’s & women’s clothes to blankets, jackets, hats and fabrics.

In addition to a full retail location for Pendleton they also give mill tours…

Here you can see the process firsthand from our state-of-the-art dye house, through spinning and weaving, to the finishing of our distinctive Indian blankets

Public tours for individuals and small groups (under 10 persons) are held Monday through Friday, at 9AM, 10AM, 11AM, and 1:30MP. Reservations are not required, however tour spaces are filled on a first come basis. When necessary, extra tours may be added to the existing tour schedule if sufficient tour staff is available. Tours take about 45 minutes.

To place a tour reservation call the Washougal Mill Store at 360-835-1118 or 800-568-2480.

I’d recommend swinging by sometime to check this out. They have some pretty cool stuff and it’s fun seeing some of the old spinning equipment in the store as well. You can also find them on Facebook if you’d like.
