Day 200: Vancouver Sausage Festival is coming soon!

Day 200 of 365…

THIS coming Friday, September 10th kicks off the 39th Annual Vancouver Sausage Festival! It runs Friday night and all day Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th. Here’s what I said in last years Sausage Fest blog post

Vancouver Sausage Festival in Vancouver WABorn and raised in Vancouver, this annual event has a special place in my heart. People who aren’t from around here don’t really get it. As a kid, it was THE place to hang out for the entire weekend. You got to ride rides, hang out, eat great food, cause trouble, play games and just be kids.

As we got older, it became more of a reunion place. A place to reconnect with some childhood friends that you may not see on a regular basis. But, you always know you’ll run into someone you know at the Vancouver Sausage Fest. It’s a place to watch local talent perform. Dancers, singers, drummers, cloggers, groups… Just plain old fun.

This sentiment hasn’t changed. I look forward to this annual event. The great thing is we are now incorporating and introducing new friends into this old tradition. Admittance this year is $2 per person or only $1 if you donate a non-perishable food item. You can also get Family Pack Admission Bracelets and Discount Ride Tickets online.

You're right. People who weren't born here couldn't possibly understand what it's like to have a fond childhood memory. What was I thinking? I was enjoying your post until the regional political bias reared its ugly head. Should I not bother going either because I couldn't possibly enjoy it because my mother didn't whelp me here?

    • Patricia,

I'm sorry you read this like that. Of course we all have special childhood memories. I certainly wasn't trying to take anything away from memories you have. I was simply sharing my experiences growing up here and also sharing how I've had lots of conversations in my world with friends who didn't grow up here not understanding the significance of the Sausage Fest to some people. I also continued in my post to share how much I enjoy introducing and inviting new people to experience this local event.

If you've followed along with the last 200+ days you know this whole project is a way to introduce locals and people thinking of moving here about all the wonderful things our community has to offer. I also share my personal experiences and family history as I write every day. I love Vancouver (& surrounding cities) and desire that we all Get Out, Explore & Enjoy Our Community. That is my desire.

      Take care,

      Dale

this information was more helpful than the official website!! Thanks for putting this together!!! We've never been, but had we only used the information gathered from the official site, we'd have passed on it. But with your postings, we're sure not to miss it!!! Thanks!

I totally understand what you meant Dale. St. Joe's was my family parish growing up so it was a big deal for my family. We worked in the corn booth as a family, EVERY year! It was a special time for me and a cherish those memories. The Fest itself is not really anything special, and as I have brought my friends there over the years, you can tell that they just don't really get it. It's a fun time for sure, but for those of us that grew up there it represents something more.
