Day 257: Old City Cemetery (Happy Halloween)

Day 257 of 365…

Old City Cemetery in Vancouver WAIt’s Halloween and what better thing to highlight than an old historic cemetery here in Vancouver Washington. The Old City Cemetery dates back to 1867 when it was purchased by the City of Vancouver in 1867. This 10 acre cemetery has an incredible variety of raised headstones with all sorts of notable names scattered throughout.

The most notable name to me is that of Esther Short. The same Esther Short who donated the 5 acre park we all so enjoy downtown Vancouver.

If you haven’t wandered this cemetery I’d recommend you do it sometime. Very cool to see all the old headstones and read them. They don’t say things quite like they used to.

Old City Cemetery is owned by the City of Vancouver and run by Park Hill Cemetery who can be reached at 360-696-8156. It is located on the northwest corner of Mill Plain Blvd and Grand Avenue.
