Day 112 of 365…

Remember the days where people would sit around the old coffee shop and enjoy a donut and cup of coffee? Days when things moved slower and that’s how people caught up on each others lives. Before Facebook, before the internet, before cell phones. Just sitting and visiting…

Donut NookWell, we still have a place like that here in Vancouver, WA. Head north on St. Johns Road off of State Route 500 until you get to NE 44th Street. There on the east side of the road you’ll see a simple banner sign that says Donut Nook. If you stop in here you’ll find just that, donuts and coffee and a whole lot of yesteryear. The Donut Nook has been operating here since around 1977. Yes, that’s 33 years of donuts for our community. This is not the prettiest building in town and the interior certainly could use a little refreshing but guess what. They make great donuts! After all, based upon the name that really is all that matters.

Cherry and apple fritters at Donut NookToday while I was in there a group of men sat around visiting with one another. I’d be willing to bet some of them have been sitting and visiting like that for 15 or 20 years (or maybe more). Smiling, laughing, sipping their coffee and enjoying a donut. Sometimes it would be good for us to slow down like that and just enjoy a donut. :) I’d recommend stopping by sometime and grabbing a donut. They are great, reasonably priced and made fresh daily.

Donut Nook is located at 4403 NE Saint Johns Road, Vancouver, WA 98661 and can be reached at 360-695-5775.
