Day 68: Clark Dining Room at Clark College

Want to know one of the best kept secrets in all of Vancouver, WA? If I tell you do you promise not to tell anyone? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Day 68 of 365…

It is my pleasure to introduce you to the Clark Dining Room located inside Gaiser Hall at Clark College. This hidden treasure has been a favorite of mine for years. While I worked at Clark County Department of Assessment & GIS this was a place my department loved to visit regularly. Since going back into full time real estate the last 7 plus years it has remained a favorite.

This restaurant is operated by the Culinary Students of Clark College. This is not just some little “so-so” food establishment. This is a full fare, gourmet meal with prices that will blow your mind. Clam chowder with sweet rollThe menu is different every week and features a wonderful selection of full entrees, sandwiches and salads. My friend and I were greeted with a warm hello and a baguette covered with some tasty herb spread and cheese. We then ordered our meals. All meals come with a roll and choice of soup or salad. We each had their Clam Chowder. It was incredible. I’d say it rivaled any chowder I’ve had on the Oregon Coast. The rolls were lightly glazed and served with a honey butter that was sweet beyond sweet.

Filipino halibut with coconut adobo sauceMy friend Mike ordered the Italian Fettuccine Clam Sauce with Bacon (which he loved) and I ordered the Filipino Style Halibut with Coconut Adobo Sauce. It came with sweet cooked carrots and a very tasty rice. Let me tell you, it was amazing! The halibut was well prepared, the sauce was excellent. The rice and carrots were just right. Then, we finished off our meals with some of the best brownies I’ve ever had.

If there was anything I could complain about this place it would be their hours. Because it’s run by the culinary students they have a very limited schedule. If you’re concerned about them being open be sure to call first. During school breaks they are not typically open. You also want to keep in mind they do not take “plastic” for payment.

    2010 Spring Quarter Hours

Monday Buffet: 11:15am -12:45pm
Tuesday through Thursday Menu Service: 11:15am -12:45pm
Closed on Fridays

Reservation number (360) 992-2147

Most of their meals run in the price range of $5 to $7 and would cost you at least $15 or more in any other restaurant. They are located in Gaiser Hall on the north end of the Clark College campus. Head over to the Clark Dining Room. I promise you’ll love it!

It was amazing food that easily could have ran for $20. Best Clam Chowder I have ever had and the fettuccine had subtle tastes I hadn’t had before. Thank you so much for showing me such a great place Dale.
Interestingly when I went to meet Dale I asked a guy with a chef’s hat where the restuarant was. He said he was a bakery student and didn’t know. I asked a student and he didn’t know. I think the few of those who know about this gem might have a word or two for Dale for exposing this gem.

We also lucked out with a dessert but I’ll leave that for another day for Dale to present.

Had a great lunch and visit with you. We need to do that more often! Thanks again!

Nice one! I want to try this out with my Breakfast Bunch. We normally go out to a different breakfast place each week, but I think I can make an exception to try the Dining Room. By the way, you may want to check out my blog athttp://www.bestbreakfastinamerica.com. Loads of Clark County places covered here.

Thanks Stephanie. The Clark Dining Room is definitely worth the trip. Glad you found this and I look forward to checking out your site.

I'm ashamed to say, I work at Clark College and have heard only fabulous things about the dining room but have never gone. How crazy is that?!

I figure I use so many of my morning breaks getting to our bakery that I don't need any more food. The pastries are to die for, and the prices can't be beat. You can buy loaves of bread there too for such good prices (beats the$4.79 sticker shock on a loaf of bread at the grocery store).

But one of these days I WILL get to that dining room.

That doesn't surprise me. My friend Mike asked several staff people how to get there and none of them knew. That's one reason this is such a gem in my opinion. You really should make an effort to go enjoy lunch in the Clark Dining Room. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
