This Saturday, September 18th, 2010 you can experience first hand what life in the evening was like around Fort Vancouver. It’s time for their annual Campfires and Candlelight event.

Campfires and Candlelight’s begins at 3pm and remains open until 10pm. You can wander the Fort Vancouver Historic Reserve enjoying all of the history and you can watch as historians re-enact life in the 1830′s and 1840′s. You’ll hear stories of life and get to witness it first hand.

Fort Vancouver is located on E. 5th Street just west of Reserve. Admission is $5.00 per family; $3.00 per adult and children 15 years and under get in for free.

Come on down and explore this fun place and experience life when it moved just a little slower…

Day 122 of 365…

This weekend marks the Grand Opening of the Fort Vancouver Historic Village and also the Brigade Encampment re-enactment. Approximately 100 local actors will re-enact how life was around Fort Vancouver for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the early to mid 1800′s.

The main activities take place between 10AM and 4PM June 19th and 20th, 2010. If you want to start the day even earlier you can follow the returning fur brigadiers who will start at the Columbia River waterfront at 9AM. They’ll then journey across the Land Bridge and get to the Historic Village for the 10AM celebration. The Historic Village is where two furnished homes have been constructed. This is the site where there were 60 homes for the employees of the Hudson’s Bay Company. If you stay outside the Fort for all the activities both days are completely FREE. If you want to go inside Fort Vancouver it’s $5 for a family. Kids under 15 are free. I’m planning to stop in and explore a bit and will grab some video when I do. Hopefully you can stop in to explore sometime during the two day event.

It is Monday and that means we get to look at some more of our Vancouver area market statistics. Last week we looked at the Vancouver Heights area. This week we’ll work our way West and head into 98661. Some of the neighborhoods included are Southcliff, Edgewood Park, Hudson’s Bay, Columbia Way, Central Park and Harney Heights. As always, I’ll post the statistics with a link to go see them much larger and easier. They’ll give you the July snapshot showing things like number of new listings, number of sales, average days on the market, rate of appreciation, average sales prices, etc.
